So, I pretty much live entirely on Tumblr now? And all my art gets shuffled off there because damn it's so nice. BUT I COMPLIED ALL OF THESE CARDS JUST FOR YOU, dA, AND POSTED THEM.
I've started art school, and had a ton of bristol paper leftover from my traditional classes after I moved on to digital, so I decided to cut my own Artist Trading Cards aka ATCs (DON'T DO THIS UNLESS YOU'RE REALLY GOOD AT CUTTING WITH XACTOS or have a guillotine man that would be niiiiice). I ended up with a stack nearly an inch and a half high, and just started going to town. The very last set, after I'd gotten burned out on drawing birds and mythological crap, were my favourite DC and Marvel characters.
I started out drawing the DC cards first, and before I went on to Marvel I realized I'd drawn all the women as very pretty pin up with little to no dymanics, whereas the men I'd gone and hunted up cool poses and the like. So I made conscious efforts to do the reverse for Marvel, the men as sort of pretty static drawings (and some blatant man(cheese)cake) and the women with great action poses.
And it turned out to be THE WEIRDEST THING EVER.
The women look AMAZING. Every single one of them looks like they could throatpunch Galactus and send him packing to wherever. So do the DC ladies, being pretty and pinupish. The DC dudes are pretty good, yeah. But the Marvel guys look so weird. If you genderbent them, I guarantee that they'd instantly look 'better', but in reality they're not. What makes them look wrong and off is the fact that they're icons of masculinity, and visual media and society says that equals kinetic and dynamic energy, while passivity is inherently feminine.
